A tradition persists in some Taoist shrines in Bangkok: film screenings as offerings to the spirits. Projectionists are hired by anonymous patrons who wish to negotiate with the Eight Immortals of Taoism in search of protection, healing, or good fortune. With no advertisements in the neighborhood and no chairs in the shrine courtyards, these screenings are intended not for the living, but for the unseen.
